Chatting with Charlie
Updated: Sep 1, 2022
Charlie Lattimore of Jewellery By Design NZ is one our permanent bench renters and tutors here at our Otautahi studio. He has kindly taken some time away from the bench to answer some of my questions so we can learn more about the man behind the sapphires. How long have you been working from Workspace? How did you find Workspace?
Since July 2021, I had attended a jewellery course about a year before and was looking for someone with a community and Workspace was really supportive and keen to have me join. What do you think are the benefits of working in a shared space like ours?
There are heaps of benefits hard to list them all. We have heaps of different types of creatives everything from jewellery and glass working to clothing and knife making. It makes such a difference being around other creatives instead of working from home as I was before. I LOVE IT HERE!! Can you tell us a bit about your work and the things you like to make? What kind of materials/techniques do you use?
We create handmade and custom jewellery focusing on the use of ethically sourced gemstones, recycled and NZ gold. I would describe my style as a refined medium to high end with a focus on simplicity and elegance. What do you feel is lacking in your work or, what do you wish you had more time for?
I wish had more time for practice and development to continue to increase my setting skills. Are you selling your work? Where can people find you? Jewellerybydesignnz.com

If you are in Auckland this week, you can check out his work and have a chat with him at the Auckland Arts Show at the Cloud at Queens Wharf on Auckland's Waterfront, 19th-22nd May 2022.
Thank you Charlie,
Debs.
