Service Description

Spend a day creating something really unique, unusual and exciting using cuttlefish "shell". Use templates or carve a shape into a simple mould, melt and pour your silver to create wonderfully textured jewellery. This course is great as a stand-alone experience, or for those wanting to grow their workshop skills. Earrings, pendants and even rings can be made in this process! We will be learning to create two-part moulds with cuttlefish from start to finish, carving shapes and casting metal on the same day. The chalky cuttlefish will be used as a unique mould for creating original silver jewellery. We actually use the swim bladder of the cuttlefish for this process. Every year after mating, dead cuttlefish wash up in thousands on beaches throughout the Pacific, so don’t worry - no cuttlefish were harmed for this process! Please note that your metal costs include 9 grams of sterling silver. Materials used over this are extra and as you get to do several castings, you can quickly get an idea of what you will use. If you don’t want to keep all your castings at the end of the course simply return the silver to us, we will weigh what you take away and you’ll only have to pay for that. This is also a great class for you to use up your sterling silver scrap from your other projects. All the sand, cuttlefish and other essentials are provided as part of your course costs. Have fun! This is a full day course, tea and coffee provided but please bring your own lunch.
